Dr. McLeod's Christian Journey
Dr. Benny McLeod was born on January 8th in Ailey, Georgia to Ulysses and Eloise McLeod. He was born into a family of 14 children that consisted of nine brothers and four sisters. There, he received his early education and started his Christian journey. Thereafter, relocating to Fort Myers, Florida, he continued his Christian journey at a higher level.
Licensed to preach by the late Rev. P. T. Phillips on September 30, 1974, Dr. McLeod was ordained to preach on August 23, 1981, by the late Rev. Thomas Brown, the late Rev. J. D. Harris, and the late Moderator Glover, at St. Mary Primitive Baptist Church.
From the year 1990 until 2006 Dr. McLeod began his educational journey receiving a Diploma in Biblical Studies from Gulf Shore College – BA degree in Biblical Studies – Masters of Arts Degree in Church Administration – Doctorate of Theology, all from Northfield University, respectively, along with an AA Degree in Marketing and Business from Southwest Florida College.
To date, Dr. McLeod has been on this journey of learning, teaching, and preaching for thirty plus years. During this time, he has Pastored many Sanctuaries. Among them are:
New Bethel MB Church – Charleston Park, FL – 1980 – 1983
Shiloh MB Church – Pahokee, FL – 1984 – 1994
New Bethel MB Church – Labelle, FL – 1994 – 2002
Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Inc. – Fort Myers, FL – 2002 to present
During this tedious journey, Dr. McLeod boasts many accomplishments along the way, some of which are increasing church membership growth, renovating several Sanctuaries, and initiating the new Southwest Florida Missionary Baptist Association. His tasks have been and are many.
Married to First Lady Cynthia Benjamin Mcleod for 36 years, their family consists of one son – Martye, two daughters – LaShay and Shonta along with 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Dr. McLeod is a fierce believer in the teachings of the Bible and teaches that to be like Christ, we must train ourselves to think like Christ and to be obedient to the Word. AMEN!
